Drug discovery specialist spends $2.3M for Del Mar 4BD

Paul Negulescu and his wife, Deborah, bought a four-bedroom, two bath at 376 Bellaire St. in Del Mar for $2.3 million from Robert and Alice Boynton on April 8.

The Boyntons paid $82,000 for the property in July 1974.

The 1,760 square foot home was listed for $2.45 million.

Mr. Negulescu is the vice president of research for Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, a Massachusetts-based biotechnology company that also has operations in San Diego. Mr. Negulescu has served as the vice president of Discovery Biology, Vertex's San Diego-based discovery and research department. He was hired for the position in Feb. 2002.

He joined Vertex's parent company, Aurora Biosciences, in 1996. He earned his Ph.D. in physiology from the University of California-Berkeley.
