Home of late San Diego first bishop sells for $1.337M

The three-bedroom, 2.5 bath La Jolla home of the late Robert M. Wolterstorff sold for $1.337 million to Douglas Gans on April 3.
The home is located at 1291 La Jolla Rancho Rd. Wolterstorff paid $186,500 for the property in March 1982.
The 2,569 square foot home was listed for $1.337 million. It was built in 1957.
Wolterstorff was elected as the first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego in 1973, and he served in that role until 1982. He passed away at the age of 92 on April 24, 2007.
Originally from St. Paul, Minn., he was ordained as a deacon in his home state in 1940 and as a priest in 1941. He served as the rector of the Messiah Episcopal Church in St. Paul from 1940-55 before joining the St. James by-the-Sea in La Jolla in 1955. He was elected as the first bishop 18 years later, and then consecrated as the Bishop of San Diego in 1974.
He earned his bachelor's from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, and graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.
